We currently rent a property from Tradewind, and the experience has been okay.
At first, we did the walk through and were fine with the property. We paid to have the background screen done with came back fine, however we were quite alarmed when they demanded the security deposit within 48 hours. We didn't quite have it at the time as we were waiting to get it back from our previous landlord (court ordered) and asked if they'd be willing to wait a week or so until we got our deposit back from our current property. They said no, and we had 48 hours or they'd move on to the next applicant. Wasn't exactly the nicest interaction. The interactions we had with Tradewind before giving them the deposit always seemed rude, ill mannered, and unpleasant.
We got our deposit from a family friend and paid it to Tradewind.
When we went to move in, the owner of the home was treating (and still is treating) part of our home as a storage locker. He has things in the garage that have been there since we moved in. There were two broken appliances in the basement. Which, eventually got removed.
Also, on move in day. We realized that they ripped out the dishwasher (because it didn't pass inspection) so there's a hole in the cabinet space where the dishwasher should go, along with holes in the floor where you can see down into the laundry room in the basement level.
The microwave that was there when we toured the house apparently blew, so there wasn't one of those either. The floor in the basement is cracking and chipping off in pieces, and the gutters are a waterfall in front of the door. Despite asking about the repair for both of these things, we haven't heard anything about it, and were told that the landlord had to put a lot of money into the house for us to move in and basically that we just had to deal with it.
UPDATE: 4/25/18
We’ve rented through Tradewind for a few years. I think the most frustrating part was any time you have to communicate with the office staff.
When we moved in, the microwave was gone and the dishwasher had been ripped out because it wasn’t put in correctly. So we have a gaping hole in the lower cabinet space complete with holes in the floor in the kitchen where the dishwasher used to be.
There are things in the garage that have been here since we moved in that are not ours. Essentially it’s part storage locker for what I assume is the homeowner.
We had mice this spring and caught 4 on our own, the office finally did send out an exterminator and we caught a few more after sending an email asking if we tried to fix the problem ourselves.
We were told at lease signing that we were getting a discount on rent because we were to take care of the yard, which was fine. However, rodents are doing something to the yard making it difficult to mow, the response was to “put gum down the hole” last fall. I’m concerned that mowing all the mounds this spring will cause the mower to break. We spent a large amount of money on lawn tools to get the yard in shape as it has not been taken care of for years when we moved in. There was so much brush to be removed. Yet our rent seem to keep increasing consistently.
When we receive rental renewal paperwork, our names were incorrect on the lease, as well as our move in date and the amount we actually paid for rent on a monthly basis. Very impersonal. When we asked for any flexibility because we were in the market to buy our rent was going to go up $200 a month if we wanted to be month to month.
Any emails I’ve received from the office have been quite patronizing, which isn’t what I’d expect from a rental agency.
I would think the homeowners would need to be somewhat accountable for certain things. Apparently they just dictate that they want the rent to go up and it does.
The reason for the additional star is because there’s been ONE office staff that was remotely helpful and didn’t make you feel like a dingbat reaching out with a question.
